Five Steps To Maintaining Your Vacuum Cleaner

One of the most used house appliances is the vacuum cleaner; you probably use this machine on a daily basis. If you are very particular about cleanliness you might even find yourself using the vacuum cleaner twice a day.

The vacuum needs to be maintained more than other appliances because its purpose is to actually take in as much dirt as it can so that you can keep a place clean. But the great thing about the vacuum cleaner is that it doesn't need too much attention; however, it does need to be maintained so that it works properly.

The last thing you need is to spend more money on a vacuum more than twice in one year. Here are the simple steps that you need to take to make sure that your vacuum is always in top condition.

• Check the bag – The part of your vacuum that collects all the dirt is called the bag and this is something that you need to check on a very frequent basis. In fact, if you can check on it every time you vacuum, that would be best.

What you need to look for is if the bag is full or not. A vacuum with a full bag will work twice as hard as it does with an empty bag. This is not a good thing because it strains the vacuum's motor. In effect, the lifespan of the vacuum will be short. For vacuums without bags, check its bin to see if it's full or not.

• Check the filters – The vacuum also comes with filters so that it doesn't catch things that don't need to be caught in the first place. This filter can be covered with all manners of dirt like large chunks of dirt or balls of hair.

Some vacuums have light indicators to tell you that the filter needs cleaning but you can never be too sure so check them regularly. Again, a filter that cannot filter anymore will mean that a vacuum is not working efficiently.

• Check the hoses – Check your vacuum hose regularly to see that nothing has accumulated and blocked the passageway. You might also be picking up large objects that will block the dirt from being sucked into the bin or the bag. Clean out the hose as often as you can and always check it before using the vacuum again.

• Check the brush – Have you noticed you can't pick up any stubborn dirt? One reason could be that the brushes at the end of your vacuum have accumulated too much already and cannot handle anymore dirt. Make sure to clean the brush heads thoroughly before attaching it to the home appliance unit again.

• Check the cord – Vacuums need electricity to work and therefore you need to check on the cord of your vacuum. Check to see that there are no damaged wires. You might want to replace your vacuum if you do see some damaged and exposed cabling which can be dangerous to your entire home. However, an easy fix for slight damage is to use electric tape but this is not always advisable.
