Five Things To Do When Maintaining A Washing Machine
You might think that a washing machine doesn't need that much maintenance because it washes its own interior off as it washes your clothes. Of course, there is a little truth to this but there are other parts of the washing machine that need to be checked and maintained on a frequent basis.
By keeping a washing machine in top shape, you don't have to spend so much money on buying a new home appliance to replace it. Here are some things that you can do so that you can save yourself time and a whole lot of money when it comes to your washing machine.
• Hoses – The main thing to check in a washing machine is its hoses and its fittings. You never know what kind of damage has been done to the hoses that will result in water leakage. This leakage can damage other things in the machine especially if the water is leaking on the motor inside the washing machine casing itself.
Check to see that the hoses are not damaged and if there are any slight damages that you can repair yourself. Otherwise, if it is something you can't repair, then you have the option of replacing the hoses or buying a new machine, the latter being very impractical.
• Check the balance – You have to make sure that your washing machine is balanced on the ground, preferably as flat a surface that you can manage. You can use a level to make sure that it is flat on the ground.
The tendency is that a vacuum machine will wobble a lot when it is washing your clothes. If it is balanced, the wobble won't be so bad. But an imbalanced machine can lead to more violent wobbling and can damage the machine itself.
• Check the machine – Remember the interior may not need a lot of cleaning but the exterior does. This is especially true if you are using a very modern washing machine with electronics on for controls. If the machine is too dirty, the electronics might get affected and you can't use your washing machine anymore.
Also, dirt and grime will cause the material that the machine is made of to corrode and you will end up with a washing machine with a shell full of holes. Also make sure that you keep harsh chemicals away from the surface of the washing machine.
• Check the tub – The tub is where you dump all your dirty clothes. This is the part of the washing machine that spins. Now, you have to make sure that there are no obstructions so that the spinning will not be affected in any way. You never know when something can stop the machine from spinning which will further cause the motor to overheat and become a hazard.
• Refrain from too much detergent – Yes, detergent is needed to clean your clothes but you should always make sure that you use just enough and not too much. Using too much fabric softener or soap will leave residue in the tub and the chemicals can damage the material that the tub is made of. Make sure that you wash the tub as often as you can with just water to get rid of any residue that remains in it.
