Four Ways To Maintain Kitchen Appliances And Save Energy

One of the fastest ways to destroy your kitchen appliances is to overuse them. In fact, there are even people who use them for anything but cooking in the kitchen. This is not just a bad thing for the appliances but using them can be a waste of electricity, water and other resources that can be easily wasted in the kitchen.

The point is that you do not have to waste energy and you can also maintain your kitchen appliances at the same time. By doing this, you will not only be doing yourself and your wallet a favor; you will also be doing some good to help with the energy crisis that the world is experiencing right now. Here are some ways that you can improve the way you are using your kitchen appliances.

• Keep them unplugged – If you are not using any of the appliances in your kitchen, make sure that these are unplugged. Of course, the one exception is the refrigerator that needs to be plugged to keep things inside cool and fresh. But your microwave, stove and your blender do not need to be plugged twenty four hours a day.

Remember that even if you are not using something that is plugged into a socket, it does not mean that electricity is not being used. Power is still generated through appliances. Unplugging them will also actually maintain their condition because these are not used in any way when unplugged.

• Don't pre-rinse – This is in relation to any dishwashing machine or washing machine that you own. There is no need to waste gallons of water for something that does not need that much washing. You can wash your dishes or your clothes with a minimal amount of water.

Omitting the pre-rinse option on your machine will not only save you water but you will also not be using too much of the machine's features which will help keep it in good condition for a very long time. If you have a quality product, this could mean keeping it in top condition for years.

• Control the heat – You don't need to turn on a stove way before you even start cooking. Some people even have their gas stoves on a long time before they put a pot or pan on the stove itself. This is not only a waste of gas but the burner (in gas stoves) is used for practically nothing.

And if you have an electric stove, keeping the coils hot will actually damage them over time; this is even faster if you keep them hot for long periods of time. So save energy and maintain your appliances by using them only when you need to.

• Control usage – If you are going to cook a small dish just for yourself, don't force yourself to use such a huge oven. You can just use an oven toaster or a microwave to prepare something quickly. This way, you will use less energy and not overuse your oven, further extending its usage by months in the long run.
