Three Ways To Take Care Of Your Refrigerator

Home appliances are expensive. But not only are these expensive, these can be quite the load when it comes to maintaining them. However, if you don't maintain them on a regular basis, you will end up paying the consequences and, in effect, using up more money just to buy new appliances.

This is something that you should try to avoid, especially during these times of economic woes. If you have home appliances that work properly, make sure that you maintain them well.

In the kitchen, the one thing that you need to care for well is your refrigerator. It not only keeps your food fresh, it makes sure that it stays fresh for many days and this is something that you can't do without. Here are some ways that you can maintain your refrigerator.

• Exterior – The longer that a refrigerator stays in position, the more dirt it will accumulate. Of course, this doesn't mean that you should move it around the kitchen area so much. Dirt will accumulate regardless of how clean your kitchen is as well.

What you can do is use another house appliance, the vacuum in particular. If your vacuum comes with all manner of attachments, make sure to make good use of them to get rid of the dirt that collects on the refrigerator coils and the dirt on the front grill located at the bottom of your refrigerator. Newer models will allow you to remove the grill. You should also make sure to vacuum behind the grill. A refrigerator will function much better without the dirt.

• Interior – Even if a refrigerator is kept closed most of the time this doesn't mean that it doesn't get dirty. Remember that you put all sorts of foods and liquids in there and the dirt can accumulate from the crumbs and spills from those items.

Your refrigerator also has ventilation areas inside so you should make sure that nothing is blocking them. Get rid of any old food and old liquid that will cause any awful smells that can spoil other foods in the fridge.

Now, to make sure that your refrigerator really does work at an optimum level, you should make sure that the fridge is filled up instead of empty. You can do this by using containers filled with water or whatever else you need to refrigerate. This will help the airflow inside the refrigerator because an empty one will not help at all.

• The door – Now, you might notice that rubber-like magnetized area that lines the door. This is known as the gasket. You have to check on the gasket to ensure that it's clean.

Also, check if the gaskets do shut the door tightly. One way to do this is to put a piece of paper in between the gasket and the fridge when closing it. Close the door and pull on the paper. If it comes out easily then you might need to change the gasket of your fridge. If it sticks tightly in the door then that is a good indication that your gasket does not need replacement.
